WHO SHOULD APPLY?
CSM / SWE Girls Lead the Way ConferenceOur annual Girls Lead the Way conference is a full day of interactive, lab or classroom-based learning designed to introduce high school girls in grades 9-12 to engineering and applied mathematics concepts and the Mines campus. The day begins with a welcome and introduction to the event, followed by major panels where women from Mines speak about their respective majors and answer questions. After the panel, girls are broken into smaller groups according to their interest in majors, and attend their first of three hour-long, interactive activity rotations hosted by Mines faculty and students. We will then give an hour for lunch break. To close out the conference, girls can take an optional campus tour with Mines Ambassadors. The classroom and lab-based interactive sessions are overwhelmingly the most impactful part of the day, and make participants more aware of the wide variety of majors and careers available. Participants report feeling more confident in their abilities to pursue their passions in STEM. Girls Lead the Way prepares participants to:
The Summer Multicultural Engineering Training (SUMMET) is a science and engineering program designed for rising juniors and seniors who are from underrepresented populations, including ethnic minorities, women and students from the states of Colorado and Oklahoma.
SUMMET combines course work, hands-on projects, industry tours, sporting activities and social events. This program provides exposure to the lifestyle, opportunities and challenges of college to help build skills and experiences for a smooth transition in the future. SUMMET students stay in Mines’ residence halls, experience life as a college student and participate in STEM related curriculum instruction. This program is available at no cost to the student, however, transportation to and from Mines is not yet available. We have six SUMMET Program opportunities:
